The students of the Oscar Peterson Program are in high gear as they prepare for their concert in Koerner Hall which will mark the culmination of a day of performances and events during The Royal Conservatory's annual PLAY Day.

Their passion is being fueled by a $1 million donation from The Hilary and Galen Weston Foundation that is helping to ensure the continuation of life-changing music education for equity-deserving children.

"The Hilary and Galen Weston Foundation is proud to invest in forward-thinking partners, such as the RCM, to create lasting benefits for all Canadians,” said Executive Director, Amy Buskirk. “The Oscar Peterson Program presents an innovative learning opportunity for children who may otherwise be excluded from high quality music education, and we are pleased to support it.”

“Supporting a new program requires vision and trust,” said Jeremy Trupp, Dean of The Oscar Peterson School of Music, which presents PLAY Day and oversees the Oscar Peterson Program. “The Weston family has a long association with the RCM, and we are so pleased that The Hilary and Galen Weston Foundation has recognized in the Oscar Peterson Program a cause worthy of its generous support.”

PLAY Day celebrates the accomplishments of students of all ages from The Oscar Peterson School of Music, the RCM’s community music school. It features free performances in renowned Koerner Hall and fun activities throughout the building and outdoors in the Reta Lila Weston Music Court. Thousands of people participate every year.

“The PLAY Day concert is a wonderful opportunity for our community to hear these students perform," said Colin Clarke, the program’s Artistic Director. “For the students, it’s a great way to showcase their hard work over the past year. I’d like to invite everyone to come down to the RCM for a day packed with performances and activities and end it all off with a memorable concert featuring our talented young musicians.”
