About The RCM Performance Assessment

Why is The RCM offering Performance Assessments?
A Performance Assessments provides an opportunity for students to receive constructive feedback on their repertoire from a member of The RCM College of Examiners that can assist them in further refining their performance for exams, recitals, or competitions.

Are Performance Assessments available for all instruments?
At this time, Performance Assessments are only available for piano, voice, violin, viola, cello, and double bass.

How long is a Performance Assessment?
Performance Assessments will be the same amount of time as a remote exam based on the respective level.

How much does a Performance Assessment cost?
- Elementary (Prep A – Level 4): $50
- Intermediate (Levels 5 – 8): $100
- Advanced (Levels 9 – 10): $150
- Diploma Level (ARCT, LRCM): $200

Are there in-person Performance Assessments?
No, Performance Assessments are offered remotely only.

Are Performance Assessments available all year round?
No, they are available for a limited time only: August 2024 on Mondays and Tuesdays.

How do I book a Performance Assessment?
You can register for an Performance Assessment online. You will need to sign in to your MyRCM Account, and click "Register for Exam". Within exam registration, you will be able to select "Performance Assessment" when selecting a session.

How many times can I complete a Performance Assessment?
You may register for a Performance Assessment as many times as you like.

Can I reschedule my Performance Assessment?
Yes, you can reschedule your Performance Assessment. If rescheduled, it must be rescheduled on the eight dates that are offered (Mondays and Tuesdays) in the month of August, 2024.

How do I reschedule my Performance Assessment?
In order to reschedule a Performance Assessment, please log into your MyRCM account, go to My Exams & Results, and select the correct family member to view their assessment details.
Performance Assessments can be rescheduled to any of the eight dates that are offered (Mondays and Tuesdays) in the month of August, 2024. Rescheduling is free of charge within 24 hours of registration. Outside of this 24 hour period, rescheduling comes with a fee. A Performance Assessment can only be rescheduled, with a fee, up to seven days before your scheduled assessment date.

Can I use an examination voucher for a Performance Assessment?
No, an examination voucher may only be redeemed for an examination registration.

Can anyone (for example, teachers or parents) sit in on a Performance Assessment?
Yes, parents or students may be in the room during the assessment, but they must remain off-camera and may not converse with the student or the examiner.

Can I record my Performance Assessment?
No, Performance Assessments may not be recorded for copyright reasons.

This will be my first time participating in a Zoom session. How do I proceed?
How to Set Up Your Performance Assessment
This document includes important information on how to set up for your Performance Assessment. Please read it at least 48 hours prior to your assessment.
Accessing Your Zoom Assessment Meeting Room
Access the link to your Zoom assessment through your MyRCM account. Once you have logged in, click on "My Exams and Results" and select the family member taking the assessment. The "Start Exam" button will take you straight to your Zoom meeting and will activate 5 MINUTES BEFORE your assessment.
"Leave the Meeting" When Your Assessment is Over
It is very important that you click the "Leave Meeting" button on the bottom right-hand corner of your Zoom screen when instructed by the examiner. If you do not do this, other students will be unable to join their assigned Zoom room.
Zoom Resources
Download the current version of Zoom at least 24 hours before your assessment. Your entry into the exam room may be delayed if Zoom pushes an update to your device immediately before your exam start time.

What if I have problems accessing my Zoom session?
If something goes wrong at the start of the assessment or during the assessment, please submit
this form and a team member will get back to you within 1 business day (Monday to Friday).

For a Piano Performance Assessment, does my keyboard need weighted keys?
For Preparatory to Level 8, a tuned acoustic piano is recommended. A weighted-touch electronic keyboard is permitted. For Level 8 to Licentiate, a tuned acoustic piano is required.
