Korean-born Canadian flutist Susan Hyun Seung Lee holds a Bachelor of Music degree from the University of British Columbia with a major in flute performance under the tutelage of world renowned flutist, Lorna McGhee. Her previous teachers include esteemed flutists, Brenda Fedoruk and Lanny Pollet. Through the years, Susan has appeared in over 100 masterclasses with some of the most distinguished musicians such as William Bennett, Sir James Galway, and Paul Edmund-Davies.
In the past Susan Lee has been directed under the baton of prized conductors such as Leslie Dala and Ken Hsieh and performed with numerous ensembles since a young age including BCMEA honour band, BCMEA honour orchestra, Vancouver Academy Orchestra, UBC Wind Symphony, UBC Opera, UBC Orchestra, West Coast Symphony, Vancouver Philharmonic and Aurora Trio. Currently she is a member of the Vancouver Metropolitan Orchestra and the principal of Willingdon Symphony Orchestra.
Susan teaches students of all ages and levels, from beginners to advanced musicians. Many of her students have won entrance auditions for University, Conservatories, and various local orchestras and wind ensembles. Her students have achieved outstanding placements in Provincial Music Competitions, as well as high marks on their flute examinations. Three of her students won the Gold Medal from the Royal Conservatory of Music in 2012, 2017 and 2018 and her most recent achievement is receiving a Teacher Certificate of Recognition from the Royal Conservatory of Music. Susan is currently active as soloist, orchestral performer, adjudicator in music competitions, as well as private instructor at various locations in Vancouver.
