I enjoy meeting, teaching, and getting to know every one of my students and their families. I recently retired from an illustrious 26-year career as a Halton District School Board Designated Music Teacher, with experience teaching music in every panel (primary, elementary, junior, and secondary), and in several genres including classrooms, concert bands, stage bands, choirs, musicals, and concerts. I’ve also been teaching piano for almost 50 years, with several students achieving awards and recognition for their high performance skills and theory results alont the way. My professional teaching experience allows me to incorporate many approaches into my private lessons, drawing from a large catalogue of previous and various experiences. I also try to keep up my own performance skills, and welcome opportunities to perform in my community. My dearest and life-long pursuit is in the study and application of Dalcroze Eurhythmics. Accordingly, my doctoral research study (2015) explored instances of holistic connections being made while teaching music principles and concepts through appropriate movement applications. I use my Dalcrozian background to create games, exercises, and improvisations that facilitate my students’ learning, at all levels. Philosophy: I believe that music allows us to experience artistry as a language of the soul, regardless of age, level, and experience. Also please see: haltonhillspiano.com
