A native of Ottawa, Nicholas Ross studied both violin and trumpet at the University of Ottawa with John Gomez and Pace Sturdevant respectively. Now pleased to make his home in Nanaimo, he performs regularly with the Vancouver Island Symphony and maintains a busy teaching schedule. As an orchestral performer, he has extensive professional experience: Victoria Symphony, Thunder Bay Symphony, Sudbury Symphony (Principal Second Violin) and North Bay Symphony (as Principal Second Violin and Acting Concertmaster). He has also appeared with the Silver Birch String Quartet and was featured as a soloist with the Elmer Iseler Singers. He performs on a violin made in Toronto by Masa Inokuchi.
With experience teaching and adjudicating in many Canadian communities, Nicholas is now an instructor of both trumpet and violin at the Nanaimo Conservatory of Music. Recently, he presented a violin lecture-recital at Laurentian University. He trained in Chicago as a Violin Instructor in the Suzuki Method.
