Michael Crane

I have been teaching for the better part of twenty-five years, and I enjoy working with youngsters beginning their musical journey as well as older, more advanced students who are working to take their playing to the next level. While receiving my doctorate in piano performance at the University of Southern California Thornton School of Music, I had the honor of studying with Daniel Pollack who instilled in me the greatest respect for the teacher/pupil relationship and I draw on that inspiration when working with all of my students. Most recently, I served as the Music Enrichment Coordinator at Ivy Academia Charter School in Woodland Hills and I previously taught at the Los Angeles Music And Arts School in Los Angeles. Prior to this, I served on the faculty of the Third Street Music School Settlement in Manhattan, an institution with a rich history and the highest reputation for excellence in music education for over one hundred years. During my years of teaching, I have enjoyed working with students of all levels and ability representing a wide spectrum of socio-economic and ethnic backgrounds. I have found the opportunity to work with such a diverse student population to be immensely rewarding. I utilize a core curriculum that focuses on literacy, repertoire, technique and theory to provide a strong foundation while being flexible in order to meet the needs and temperament of each student.
