Maria Chan

I started learning to play piano since the age of 6 in Hong Kong. At the beginning I had so much interest and willing to practice daily, however over time I had lost my passion in piano due to heavy school work and not progressing well enough compare with my friends. I emigrated to Canada in the 90's. I was very fortunate to have met my piano teacher who was a long time Piano and Accordion Adjudicator with the RCM. Under his guidance I took a step back to relearn some essential techniques; through him I learned that it is the responsibility of the teacher to foster an environment for young artists to grow and shine on the performing stage. It is my biggest regret to have stopped my piano journey when I entered University. As I focused on my professional development in the business stream, I left the piano untouched for years but the seed of music is still within me. During COVID lockdown, I decided to teach my then 4 years old daughter to play the piano, she is the reason to rekindle my love for the instrument. Fast forward to 2024, I begin to formally teach children piano, with a commitment to leverage my own lessons learn, to coach in a fun, positive and enjoyable environment so students won't lose their love for music.
