I am a current music history PhD Candidate at Memorial University of Newfoundland and Labrador. I have a Master of Music from McGill University in Cello performance, specifically historical performance, and a Bachelor of Music and a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) from the University of Western Australia. I have been performing professionally for the past 15 years and have worked with orchestras, opera companies and chamber ensembles in Montreal, St John's and Australia. I am also a studio musician and my cello tracks have appeared on many contemporary albums. Since living in St John's, Newfoundland, I have become involved in the folk music community and can regularly be found playing cello or Irish flute with several traditional music groups!
I believe that anyone can play given the right opportunities and space to learn! I give my students the space to be themselves offering a stress free and happy environment to explore not only their chosen instrument but music making as a whole. I have a background in technique that focuses on the comfort and physical well-being of my students and aim to put that in place from the very beginning! I also believe that exploring music outside of the classical music realm is important for producing well rounded and capable musicians. I therefore offer not only traditional classical methodologies but opportunities to explore historical performance practice as well as folk and traditional music repertoires.
