Karen has had the opportunity to work with diverse students, from preschoolers to adults of varied backgrounds. Her students have participated in the Royal Conservatory Program and achieved First Class Honors as well as First Class Honors with Distinction. Additionally, her students have participated in piano competitions across the DFW metroplex - winning 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and honorable mention prizes. Karen's musical philosophy is to help each student achieve their own musical best. Her goal is to develop the musical potential of each student through consistent instruction that presents balanced repertoire, progressive technique, and music theory. It is also her desire to help the student learn to appreciate and enjoy music.
Karen graduated with her Masters of Music from Southwestern Seminary and received an Academic Achievement Award during her time there. She has a double concentration in Piano Pedagogy and Music Education. Karen has been honored with the Wayne McNeely Piano Award as well as the Evelyn Marney Phillips Music Education Award. During her studies, she was also presented with a Piano Scholarship Award. Karen sincerely enjoys the teaching and learning process; she has had prior experience teaching private piano lessons, group piano, and functional piano. Because she has great enthusiasm for working with children, Karen has also taught early childhood music education classes and directed children’s choir. She is an RCM Certified Teacher and a member of Plano Music Teachers Association.
Karen grew up in the Dallas area and began studying piano at the age of six. She participated in a number of festivals and competitions during her youth, winning prizes at local competitions. Later, she attended The University of Texas at Austin, where she obtained a Finance degree with University Honors. Subsequently, she worked at a large accounting firm in the corporate sector. Because she continued to harbor a love for music and teaching, Karen returned to school to further develop her skills in music pedagogy. Presently, Karen resides in Plano, TX, with her husband, Alex, and her children, Noah and Emmie. She also serves on the worship team at her church.
