Johnson Tam has been working and instructing students since the age of 12. Wrapping up his studies in the Royal Conservatory of Music in piano and violin at 12 and 18 years old respectively, he graduated from the Concurrent Teacher Education Program (CTEP) - Music. There, he received his Bachelor of Music from the University of Toronto under the tutelage of the great Marie Berard in violin studies and his Bachelor of Education from the Ontario Institute of Studies in Education (OISE). He was also alumni to the previous Arts York Program from Unionville High School in Markham, holding the Melody Adams Award and Music Award, and a member of the Ontario College of Teachers. He also has studied flute under the flautist Stephen Tam in the past.
As a teacher, Johnson primarily is adept in working both Classical training and popular music workshops. He highly values students whom consistently show effort and passion in their lessons and show willingness to improve their own playing. His lessons focus on students' self-reflective learning, musicianship training, and character building, while Johnson serves by giving constructive comments and feedback as a professional musician and music educator. His students have been recognized by countless success shown in their RCM exams results and Kiwanis music competition placements. Johnson's music studio also holds annual recitals in different venues all around the GTA since 2014, allowing live-performance opportunities for his students.
