Jean Chen started studying piano at the age of 4 in Taipei, Taiwan. At the Dunhua music conservatory, she started studying violoncello at the age of 8. She completed her training in voice, theory, harmony, history and counterpoint at the Conservatory. Her passion for music and education was amplified after moving to Canada as a child. She completed ARCT Performance in Piano and Grade 10 Violoncello performance at the age of 15, and ARCT Pedagogy at the age of 20, through the Royal Conservatory of Music. She continued her cello education in Ottawa with her beloved teacher and mentor, Don Whitton. She completed the Royal Conservatory of Music teacher certification program and is listed as a specialist in Rudimentary, Intermediate and Advanced piano pedagogy. While busy as an academic emergency physician, she continues teaching piano, theory, and cello students of all ages. She is active in medical education research and is the Med Ed lead at the University of Ottawa's Music and Health Research Institute.
