Chi-Ming Shui

Dr. Chi-Ming Shui is a passionate and talented piano teacher and performer. She has won prizes at numerous piano competitions, including International Young Artist Piano Competition in Maryland, Raymond Weil Music Award and Scholarship in Switzerland, Summit Festival Concerto Competition in New York, Taipei International Competition, Kawai Piano Competition and many others. She has been invited to attend masterclasses and various performances in the State of the Arts Cultures Series at the U.S. State Department in Washington D.C., Weil Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall in NYC, National Theater and Concert Hall in Taipei, Verbier Music Festival in Switzerland, Bowdoin Music Festival in Maine, Summit Music Festival in New York, International Moscow Conservatory Summer School, Pacific Music Festival at Stanford University and Taiwanese Contemporary Music Concert at San Jose State University in California and Kitchener-Waterloo Chamber Music Society. She has also participated in the “Love of Marathon” fundraising concert for KW Symphony Orchestra in the First United Church, Waterloo and performed at the Kitchener Public Library with KWSO violinist Jung Tsai. She began her piano studies at age of five and viola at age of eight in Taiwan and studied at Universität für Musik und darstellende Kunst Graz preparatory division where she studied with Walter Kamper. She received B.F.A. in piano performance from National Institute of the Arts, Taipei with Dr. Michael Dellinger as her mentor. She is a graduate of Taipei National University of the Arts with M.F.A. and Music Education Teacher’s Certificate under the guidance of Dr. Rolf-Peter Wille and Dr. Tai-Chen Chen. In 2003-2007, she studied with Dr. Larissa Dedova at the University of Maryland, College Park and received the degree of Doctor of Musical Arts. From 2004 to 2007, Chi-Ming was a former faculty at the International School of Music in Maryland, collaborative pianist for Maryland State Music Teachers Association, Montgomery County Music Teachers Association, and an accompanist for performances of the musical “The Wizard of Oz” at Washington International School in D.C., as well as “You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown” at Arundel High School in Maryland. She also served music at Adelphi Presbyterian Church in Maryland and collaborative pianist for Greater Washington Taiwanese-American Chorus. In 2006, she was an examiner for the National Guild of Piano Teachers, American College of Musicians and in 2008 she was invited to give lectures at Alethea University in Taipei. She is now accepting a limited number of piano students in Kitchener-Waterloo.
