Andrew Craig

I have been studying the piano for almost 50 years and counting, and have been a professional musician and artist for 30 years. In that time, I have had the honour and privilege of working with some of Canada's brightest lights, including Measha Bruggergosman, Molly Johnson, Jackie Richardson, David Clayton-Thomas, and many more. I have opened for Bobby McFerrin, Musical Directed tributes to Oscar Peterson and Quincy Jones, and performed for Nelson Mandela - twice. I offer instruction to teachers and advanced students ONLY. While I have extensive experience in Baroque, Classical, and Romantic styles, I specialize in the music of the African diaspora: jazz, Gospel, funk, soul, R & B, Blues, and many African continental styles. My degree area of focus was non-style-specific improvisation, and as such, have fluency with all manner of spontaneous composition. I put heavy emphasis on rhythm, and spent years studying advanced rhythm techniques with South Indian master drummer Trichy Sankaran. If you are looking to expand your musical vocabulary to include one of the above areas, become more proficient at the piano, or endeavour to develop new teaching strategies to help your students with rhythmic, harmonic, or technical challenges. I may be of assistance. I am also an experienced composer and arranged, having received commissions from organizations such as the Toronto 2015 Pan/Para Am Games and the National Arts Centre Orchestra. I can help you find your compositional voice. Further information can be found at my website: www.rhapsodius.com.
