Amy Stephens

Teaching full-time since 1992, Amy lives in San Francisco, where she teaches 40+ students weekly lessons in all styles of piano, as well as theory and composition. Her students have been accepted to such prestigious music schools as Eastman, Berklee, The New School, NYU Steinhardt, UCLA Herb Alpert, and USC Thornton. She is a Nationally Certified Teacher of Music and was the CAPMT Commissioned Composer 2021. Amy earned two Bachelors, a Masters, and Performer’s Certificate in classical & jazz piano from world-renowned Indiana University School of Music. Her mentors include jazz legend David N. Baker and classical master Evelyne Brancart. Amy teaches both in-person and online lessons. Amy is a Third Stream and pedagogical composer for Red Leaf Pianoworks. Her solo piano suites include Scenes of San Francisco, the 3-volume Childhood Excursions series, A Day at the Beach, and Becoming: Suite for Solo Piano. Her suites have garnered prizes in competitions such as International Association of Women in Music's Search for New Music, Robert Avalon International competition, The American Prize, SMP Press and Composers Today several years running. She has released several albums of her solo piano compositions and jazz quartet compositions. She often gives presentations to teachers and students at state and regional conferences.
