In Memoriam – Harold Newton Ross
The Royal Conservatory of Music is saddened by the loss of longtime faculty member, Harold Ross.
Harold joined the faculty of the Royal Conservatory School, which later became the Oscar Peterson School of Music, in 1962. In addition to the many students he taught in Toronto — several of whom went on to achieve international acclaim — he had a tremendous impact on the training of countless students through his cross-country travels as an examiner for the RCM Certificate Program.
The Royal Conservatory is honoured that Harold asked that memorial donations be made to The Royal Conservatory’s Oscar Peterson Program – an initiative that provides tuition- free, comprehensive music training for students from underserved communities. Harold’s request is a testament to his enduring love of music and its ability to continually inspire the next generation. The Royal Conservatory offers its condolences to all who loved him.
