Course Description
NOTE: Tuition does not include textbooks or exam. Students are responsible for purchasing their own textbooks and registering for exams. Summer Intensive theory registration opens in early spring.
This accelerated, Advanced Level course corresponds to the content of a second-year college or university music program, and is designed to prepare students to write the Level 10 Harmony & Counterpoint Examination. Students should be at least 14 years old as of the start of the course. Students must have completed RCM Level 9 Harmony before registering for this course. The completion of homework assignments is required. Please see Course Outline below for more details.
Tuition includes:
- Three classes per week starting the first week of July and ending in August the day before Canada's August Examination Session
- Live online classes delivered in real time by OPSM faculty who are also RCM Examiners
- Moodle Account to access instructor handouts and upload assignments

- leading-tone diminished 7th chord
- dominant 9th and 13th chords
- sequences
- melody writing (16-measure binary form)
- sonata form, rondo form, and fugal expression

*Summer Intensive Courses are offered July/August and open for registration in early Spring. Students enrolling in the Summer Intensive course must be at least 14 years old. The volume and complexity of this course is not appropriate for younger learners.
