What T-Shirt Size?
Every camper gets a t-shirt on the last day of camp to wear at their showcase performance! Use this chart to select the correct size for your child.
Join RCM faculty musicians for hands-on instruction in an interactive and fun setting. New students may choose from band instruments including flute, oboe, clarinet, saxophone, French horn, trumpet, trombone, baritone, tuba, and percussion.
Students will be grouped by playing experience and will share their skills in a final performance at the end of the week.
Instrument assignment and fitting for new students will take place at The Royal Conservatory (RCM) at 273 Bloor Street West the morning of the first day of camp. Further details will be provided closer to the start date.
Early Drop Off (8am) and Extended Care (4-6pm) available for an additional fee.

Where does Band Camp take place?
Band Camp takes place at
The Royal Conservatory, 273 Bloor Street West, in Downtown Toronto. Campers will enjoy some outdoor time (weather permitting) and if the opportunity arises may take music related field trips to locations such as the Royal Ontario Museum (ROM), the Edward Johnson Building (University of Toronto Faculty of Music), or jazz performances in Yorkville.
What are the age requirements for camp?
Campers must be a minimum of nine (9) years of age as of the start date of camp and be able to physically hold up their instrument.
What does my child need to bring to camp?
Detailed instructions on what to bring will be sent in your camp welcome email, but please plan to bring a nut-free lunch and snacks, a water bottle, indoor shoes and outdoor shoes, season/weather appropriate clothing, and a change of clothes. Bring your instrument, if you already own or are borrowing one (rental available by request; more details below), and also a notebook, pencil, and eraser. Music will be provided by the Oscar Peterson School of Music.
What do students learn in Band Camp?
Students will be grouped by playing experience and rehearse daily. Each day the beginners and more experienced players will come together for a combined rehearsal and will share their skills in a final performance at the end of the week.
Do I need to know how to read music?
Being able to read music notation is recommended.
What if I haven’t played a band instrument and don’t know which one to choose?
Beginners are welcome to join Band Camp! Experience playing a band instrument is not required. When registering for Band Camp you will be asked to fill more details about your musical experience and knowledge, and you can list your preferred instrument. Are instruments provided or do I need to own or rent one?
A rental instrument will be provided upon request. When registering for Band Camp to fill more details about your musical experience and knowledge, including whether or not you need a rental instrument. If you have your own instrument or have access to one from your school, you may bring that to camp.
What if we are unable to attend camp? What is your withdrawal policy?
Last-minute absences from the camp due to medical reasons may be considered on a case-by-case basis. All early and after care fees are non-refundable. Please refer to our
withdrawal policies for detailed information.
Do you offer early care or after care?
Yes, we offer both Early Care (8:00 am) and Extended Care (4:00-6:00 pm) at an additional cost. You will be able to opt in when registering for camp.

10:00-11:00 am – Beginner Classes & Concert Band Rehearsal
11:00 am-12:00 pm – Concert Group Classes & Beginner Band Rehearsal
12:00-1:00 pm – Lunch and Free Time
1:00-2:00 pm – Tutti Band (Concert Group + Beginners)
2:00-3:00 pm – Live Demos by Professional Musicians
3:00-4:00 pm – Camp Fun Activities
4:00-4:15 pm – Sign-out
