Choir: Children (Ages 4-12)
Choir: Children (Ages 4-12)
Course Description
Oscar Peterson School of Music students begin choir as young at 4 years old!
We offer a range of choral options that emphasize vocal production, sight reading, theory, and ensemble performance. Our choir ensembles include a cappella as well as accompanied singing.
Students in Let's Sing!, Elementary Choir, and Children's Choir all perform in Koerner Hall on PLAY Day in June!
Students enrolled in the Orff Ensemble also learn to sing while playing instruments.
Let's Sing (ages 4-5)
This ensemble is designed for very young students who love to sing. In a fun and engaging setting students will learn about their speaking and singing voices, work on pitch matching with unison melodies, blend and following a conductor.
Elementary Choir (ages 6-8)
Elementary Choir builds on the skills introduced in Let's Sing. New skills include expansion into full major and minor scales with solfege, diction, use of melodic and rhythmic ostinato and introduction of partner songs. Students will begin using vocal scores.
Orff Ensemble (ages 7-11)
Incorporating the four basic media of Orff-Schulwerk (singing, playing both pitched and un-tuned percussion instruments, speech, and movement), children enrolled in
Orff Ensemble gain a deeper sense of pulse and rhythm, develop right and left hand coordination, and get the opportunity to have fun making music with friends.
Children's Choir (ages 9-12)
The Children's Choir focuses on singing in thirds, contrary motion, in fifths and more. Students will learn how to read vocal scores with repertoire sung in two and three part harmonies. Students will explore diverse repertoire from around the world.
