Sofia Smyrnioudi earned her Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education from the National University of Athens. She also holds a Diploma in Piano Performance from the Orpheum Athens Conservatory and a Level 10 French Horn certificate from the International Conservatory of Athens. She furthered her piano studies through masterclasses in Austria with Katerina Polyzoides (Graz University) and horn lessons with Hector McDonald (Vienna Symphony Orchestra). In Canada, she became an OCT-certified teacher and obtained an M.Ed. from the University of Toronto (OISE), with a focus on teaching a second language through music. She also took Latin jazz piano classes with Dr. Ruben Vasquez and completed The Royal Conservatory’s Elementary and Intermediate Piano Teaching courses. Additionally, she completed Smart Start training, along with courses in Orff, Kodály, and other music pedagogy approaches.

Her professional experience in Greece includes teaching in public schools and providing piano instruction at the International Conservatory of Music in Athens. In Toronto, she has taught music at Metamorphosis Elementary School and in various educational settings. Currently, she is a supply music teacher at Bayview Glen Middle School. She has been an active performer on Toronto’s Greek music scene, singing and playing the keyboard or accordion. In 2016, she joined the faculty of the Oscar Peterson School of Music, where she currently teaches piano.
