Emily Fountas
Professor Emily Fountas is a seasoned educator and philosopher with over 28 years of teaching experience in areas such as philosophy of art, philosophy of film, popular culture, and political philosophy at institutions including Toronto Metropolitan University and the University of Toronto. As a practicing filmmaker, she has produced several short films, bringing a unique, creative perspective to her academic work. With a professional background in contemporary dance, she also brings interdisciplinary expertise to her teaching and research. Professor Fountas holds a BA from Simon Fraser University's Centre for the Arts and an MA and PhD in Social and Political Thought from York University. In her new role at The Glenn Gould School, she will teach a course on cultural appropriation, blending her rich experience in philosophy with a deep understanding of the intersection of art, culture, and politics.
