Applications for the Fall 2025 Academic Year Close on December 15, 2024
After a historic year which saw orchestral students of The Glenn Gould School (GGS) make their sold-out Carnegie Hall debut in May 2024, the new academic year brings more exciting news! Steven Woomert, Associate Principal Trumpet at the TSO and a GGS alumnus, has already begun his tenure as head of the school’s Sheryl & David Kerr Trumpet Program while Kelly Zimba Lukić, Principal Flute at the Toronto Symphony Orchestra (TSO) will be joining GGS faculty in Fall 2025 along with pianist Anton Nel who was previously announced.
When choosing a music school, nothing is more important than finding the right teacher. Steve is a wonderful addition to an already exceptional faculty, and I am incredibly excited that Anton and Kelly will be joining us in 2025 – I know that our students will blossom under their expert mentorship and guidance. Welcome, Steve, Anton and Kelly!

Steven Woomert joined the Toronto Symphony Orchestra as Associate Principal Trumpet in 2014. Recent performances include Principal Trumpet of the Orchestre symphonique de Montreal, the National Arts Centre Orchestra and the Canadian Opera Company Orchestra. The 2013 winner of the International Trumpet Guild Orchestral Excerpts Competition, Mr. Woomert earned his Bachelor of Music degree at Northwestern University and then moved back home to Toronto to study with Andrew McCandless at The Glenn Gould School where he graduated from the Artist Diploma Program in 2014.
The Glenn Gould School is an ideal environment for students to thrive and grow into successful professional musicians. My years spent at GGS were an essential part of my musical journey to the Toronto Symphony and it is a thrill to work with the talented trumpet studio and help guide them in their musical development. It is very rewarding to be able to contribute to a faculty that is personally committed to the success of their students.

Kelly Zimba Lukić joined the Toronto Symphony Orchestra as Principal Flute in 2017. Previously a flute fellow at the New World Symphony, she has performed with the Chicago, San Francisco, Pittsburgh, and Detroit Symphony Orchestras in such venues as Carnegie Hall, Beijing's National Centre for the Performing Arts, Royal Albert Hall, and the Teatro del Lago in Frutillar, Chile. Originally from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Ms. Zimba Lukić completed her graduate studies at Rice University's Shepherd School of Music and received bachelor's degrees in flute performance and music education from the University of Michigan.
I am truly honored to join the GGS faculty in 2025. This institution is simply top notch, providing students with world class training, excellent facilities, access to guest artists, and more. It is a privilege to work with such promising musicians, and I can’t wait to meet next year’s cohort!
