The Royal Conservatory of Music is pleased to announce the appointment of internationally acclaimed violinist, violist, conductor, and musicologist Dr. Sean Wang to the role of Director of Academics at The Glenn Gould School.
“Sean is an extremely well-respected musician, musicologist, and concertmaster – he will bring a wealth of experience to this role and to our students,” said James Anagnoson, Dean of The Royal Conservatory’s Glenn Gould School. “We are absolutely delighted he will be joining us this fall.”
Dr. Wang holds degrees from Curtis Institute of Music (BM, violin), The Juilliard School (MM, conducting), and Stanford University (PhD, musicology and humanities). His principal teachers were Rafael Druian, Otto-Werner Mueller, Jacques-Louis Monod, and William Mahrt.
Most recently, he directed the Longy Conservatory Orchestra and chaired the Department of Historical Performance and Studies at the Longy School of Music of Bard College in Cambridge, MA. He has also worked as Violinist-in-Residence with the Guild of Composers in New York City, concertmaster with Grammy-nominated early music group Ars Lyrica Houston, Interim Director of Bach Society Houston, and Founder/Director of New York Intercultural Music Society.
Since 2022, he has served as Co-Artistic Director of Interwoven, a New York City-based nonprofit performing group focusing on intercultural art music.
