David Liam Roberts (BMus ’22, cello) was the first prize winner of 2021 Michael Measures Prize, following up on his second prize win last year. Barbara Assiginaak (HARTC ’95, piano) was appointed to the tenure-track position of Assistant Professor in Composition at Wilfred Laurier University. SaeYoon Chon (BMus ’19 / ADP ’21, piano) received the Tabor Foundation Award for the most promising pianist at this summer’s Verbier Festival Academy’s soloist program. This award comes as a follow-up to his appearance at the 2019 Verbier Festival, where he placed 3rd in the prestigious Vendome Prize competition.

Their 45 minute program explored the concept of “home”, through a series of musical postcards - each selection a glimpse into the lives of composers in search of home.

Ryan Davis (2019-20 Rebanks Fellow, viola) was featured on the Violin Channel’s online New Music Tuesday series, performing a new version of his own piece for viola and electronics, Colour You Like. This work began as a haiku written by the performer, which was inspired by vivid imagery of primary colours colliding in the darkness.

Nofar Yacobi (2018-19 Rebanks Fellow, soprano) was the 1st Prize winner at this summer’s Spazio Musica International Singing Competition in Italy. In addition, she received the Audience’s Favourite Prize and four special prizes given by Teatro Lirico di Cagliari, Teatro Carlo Felice Genova, Teatro di Piacenza and Teatro Comunale di Bologna. As part of the prize, Nofar will debut the role of Lauretta in Puccini’s Gianni Schicchi in Orvieto, Italy.
