Eric Guo (BMus ’24, piano) won the recent PianoTexas Young Artists Concerto Competition, with his performance of Chopin’s Piano Concerto No. 1 in E minor, Op. 11.  Featuring the gifted young piano participating in PianoTexas’ Young Artists Program, this competition provides its top 3 performers with the opportunity to perform with the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra.

Angelica Hairston (PDP ‘15, harp) and Yunior Lopez (ADP ’13, viola) were awarded MPower Artist Grants by Sphinx, a social justice organization (USA) dedicated to transforming lives through the power of diversity in the arts.

Meghan Lindsay (PDP ‘09, soprano) was featured in Opera Atelier’s recent online presentation of Handel’s The Resurrection.  Originally programmed for spring 2020, this production’s audio was recorded in Koerner Hall and it was filmed inside St. Lawrence Hall.  A behind the scenes documentary about this production is now available online.

The Indigo Trio - featuring violinist Jesse Ramsay, violist John Sellick (ADP ’20) and cellist Alyssa Ramsay (ADP ‘14) - is part of Prairie Debuts roster of artists for its 2021-2022 season. Their touring performance will fuse traditional Métis and Danish fiddle tunes with folk-inspired classical repertoire.

The list of 2021 Fellows for Toronto Summer Music includes Leslie Ashworth (BMus ‘19, violin), Matthew Eeuwes (ADP ’22, viola), Jessy Kim (PDP ‘16 / Rebanks Fellow 2020-2021, violin) and Katya Poplyansky (ADP ’18 / Rebanks Fellow 2018-2019, violin). These Fellows will be placed in chamber groups and be by at least one artist mentor, with a focus on learning through performance.

The GGS was well represented at the recent JUNO awards, with connections to many of the winners in the classical categories. The Classical Album of the Year, Ensemble Made In Canada’s winning album MOSAÏQUE, featured commissioned piano quartets by Barbara Croall (HARTC ’95, piano) and faculty member Kevin Lau.  The Classical Album of the Year: Vocal or Choral, Massenet: Thaïs, features the work of many of our orchestral faculty members as part of the Toronto Symphony Orchestra.
