Support your practical studies with theory
Delve further into the language of music with Introduction to Music Theory. You’ll learn more about notation, key signatures, time signatures, intervals, chords, the workings of melody, harmony, and rhythm. You will improve your basic skills for reading music.
Whether you’re a complete beginner, or a music aficionado looking to explore favourite works across many styles and genres, you’ll gain a deeper understanding and appreciation of music.

Learn to Play - Introduction
This class is only offered during the Summer term.
Discover the joy of studying music in a welcoming and pressure-free environment. This beginner course for adult will introduce you to keyboard basics. The teacher will lead the class through group activities and also offer Individualized instruction and feedback in each class. The ability to read music is not required for beginners.
Prerequisite: Students will be required to have access to an 88-key piano for practice and to purchase course materials. More information about materials be provided in the first class.
Learn to Play - Level 1
This is a full year class.
Discover (or re-discover!) the joy of studying music in a welcoming and pressure-free environment. Developed specifically for adult learners, this course will introduce you to the piano through foundational instruction and engaging play. The teacher will lead the class through drills and repertoire from a piano at the front of the room while the students, wearing headsets, play along on individual keyboards. Individualized instruction and feedback are provided on an ongoing basis throughout the course. The ability to read music is not required for beginners entering at Level 1.
Prerequisite: Students will be required to have access to an 88-key piano for practice and to purchase course materials. More information about materials be provided in the first class.
Learn to Play – Level 2
This is a full year class.
Hone your skills, develop greater awareness of your body form and positions, enhance tone production, and begin to explore the theoretical aspects of music in a friendly, sociable setting. Learn new pieces, as well as pentascales, triads, articulations, and other concepts, as you build on the fundamentals learned in Level 1. The teacher will lead the class through drills and repertoire from a piano at the front of the room while the students, wearing headsets, play along on individual keyboards. Individualized instruction and feedback are provided on an ongoing basis throughout the course.
Prerequisite: Piano: Learn to Play - Level 1, or permission of the instructor. Students will be required to have access to an 88-key piano for practice and to purchase course materials. More information about materials be provided in the first class.
